Random

It seems like I wasn't the only person thinking that our little Montrail blog here has been a bit stale lately. So as per Le Grizz's lady's champion suggestion, I'm going to put something random up.

What's up with my friends and hernia surgery? In the last month, 3 guys I know have had hernia surgery. I mean, what gives?

I was supposed to go on some epic adventure run in the Washington Cascades with one of the guys a week ago, but he decided to have double hernia surgery, instead.

Then I was going to be part of an awesome JFK team with this guy and this guy, but as luck would have it, they both decided it would be much more fun to have hernia surgery than to run JFK. (This guy was also going to be on the team, but he got recruited to be on the German National Team for the Sunmart 50 miler.)

So instead of the adventure run in the Cascades, I ran this 50k in a highly competitive field of one. Yes, one. There were 14 runners in the 100k, and were supposed to be 3 in the 50k. But that dwindled to just me; so yes, I was DFL.

I've wanted to run JFK for quite a few years, so I am still going there. Just teamless...as far as scoring. But I know many of my Montrailian teammates will be there. I'm looking forward to seeing and running with you all.

Then it will be time to rest. And I don't need the excuse of a hernia or hernia surgery to rest.

Thanks for posting! I check the MNUT blog often... but rarely find any posts. I was just thinking about this last night. Maybe I'll have to put up an entry in the near future.

Why don't more MNUT team members don't post here, especially since a couple dozen update their personal blogs? Is it fear that what we post will not be relevant or important enough? Do people not want to cross post? Thoughts?

Yay, way to step up to the plate, Sean. The 20th Century 100K/50K run looked so sweet (oops, I said the name, is that ok?). Nice 78 photos -- every one of 'em made me want to step into the picture and RUN. Did the schwag really consist of sonicare toothbrushes and cute little punkins? Seriously? Fun seeing Van Phan and TC too. Have you seen gtach's Poker Run photos yet? http://www.pbase.com/gtach/pokerrun07 I see skirts aren't just for Hagg Lake anymore (or women!). :) And totally ditto on the "sports" hernia (sorry, I had to poke a little fun at Hart)... my friends are all getting Hernia surgery. The new botox for your innards. Just kidding - I realize it's not elective and NOT FUN. Thanks for "Random." Good luck at JFK about a month from now. I am looking at 2008 races that fill quickly and wondering if I should break out of the NW a little. Signed, Mizz LeGrizz.

Yes, Bryon, we don't want to cross-post and are afraid to have something irrelevant and unimportant on such a high profiled blog. I am speaking for myself:) I do check it ofteh as well though. Since Montrail blog has a link to each of those who has personal blogs, it's kind of a no brainer to go read on.
The good thing is there was an REI presentation about ultrarunning put on by Montrail's Paul on Wed in Portland, and Dave terry and I got to have fun telling stories! Hope Paul might write up a quickie? Fat chance, he is a busy man:) But the new shoes on the line are awesome! I am in for Zoolander and Streak! Wide toebox and light like feather!

Olga,
I've tried the Streak and love 'em. I want them back! :-) In the process of trying the Wildwoods - they should be great for you left coasters. Can't wait to get my feet in a pair of Zulanders! I love the Highlander, so can't wait to see how they've improved it.

From the port on your blog I could tell that giving the presentation was a ton of fun. I'd love to do something like that in the DC area. Maybe I'll have to talk with Paul about it. I mean an audience for me to talk about ultrarunning with? I'm in!
